During January 2007, the Pastorate conducted a series of meetings with the membership of the Greenwood Village Colorado Community of Christ congregation. The purposes of these meetings were to brain storm with the members of the problem with declining attendance at the various activities (worship, fellowship nights, etc.). A list of 25 items was compiled from these meetings.
On February 22, 2007, members of the Pastorate met with the Missionary Commission to discuss the possible direction and options that the leadership team could present to the members during the business meeting scheduled for April 15th. The Pastorate requested the Missionary Commission to bring forward its recommendation by February 28th.
The Missionary Commission would like to submit 3 recommendations for your consideration:
The first recommendation of the Missionary Commission is for the Pastorate; Commission Leaders, and the other interested parties to become familiar with the principles of A Witnessing Community (AWC). AWC is the World Church series of guidelines that assists a congregation in new or revitalized growth. These principles are divided into 4 stages. The Greenwood Congregation has almost completed the first two stages.
The second recommendation of the Missionary Commission is for the Greenwood Village Congregation to start engaging stage 3 of AWC. If the Greenwood Congregation completes the 3rd Stage of AWC in 2007 and enters the 4th Stage of AWC by 2008, we believe that at least 16 out of the 25 items compiled during the Pastorate-Missionary meeting will be addressed and resolved by 2009.
The third recommendation of the Missionary Commission for Greenwood Village Congregation is for the ministry of presence of the Pastorate Team, Commission Leaders, and other interested parties on the following activities:
1. WOWEE Workshop Attendance (this year: 4/27-28 in Loveland): The WOWEE Workshop is the Rocky Mountain Mission Center Missionary focus. At these workshops we will have the opportunity to see how the AWC can be put into action.
2. The AWE in SMALL Workshop Overview: Only 3 members of Greenwood Congregation attended this workshop. The Greenwood Missionary Commission would like to sponsor a local workshop to help the Greenwood Leadership and Worship Planners to put more missionary focus on our worship services. Time and place to be determined at a later date but before the summer break, with Christian Ed. Dept.’s agreement.
3. Disciples Class – The Missionary Commission would like to work in partnership with the Christian Ed. Department in setting up a series of classes for members and non-members on the teachings of the Community of Christ. Time and place to be determined at a later date, after the 2007 Vacation Church School
4. Small Group Ministries - The Missionary Commission, the Pastoral Care Commission, and other interested parties would like to work in partnership in promoting and implementing small group ministries within the Greenwood Congregation, such as, but not limited to Witnessing Support Groups and Flock Ministry. Time and place to be determined at a later date, after the 2007 Vacation Church School.
5. Maintain all AWC Stages. This will be an ongoing process moving forward for the Greenwood Village Congregation.
