Today’s Update comes from DeziRae Astle:
Greetings Friends,
It has been an overwhelming week for me and really an overwhelming month for many. Many of us find ourselves in the wake of significant loss, or in the midst of huge transitions or incredible stresses at work and/or home. I too find myself lost in the chaos this week and wondered how to pull through to the other side. Its at times like these that I forget the simple command to “love yourself”. I tend to focus on the the “love your neighbor part” forgetting that in order to love my neighbor I must first love myself. When life is throwing me curveballs and one or two end up hitting me I need to remind myself to love myself. When I don’t feel like I have the time, when I don’t feel like I deserve it, when it just seems so hard… that’s when I need to love myself even harder. So I drew myself a hot bath this week, I went for a long walk, I let myself scream and cry and laugh, I journaled, read favorite poems, loved on my son, cooked good food and breathed deeply over and over and over.
“You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.”
– Buddha
“Your task is not to seek for Love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.” – Rumi, thirteenth century Sufi poet
“Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.” – Lucille Ball
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:30-31
How do you love yourself in the midst of life’s hardships?
